Back Pain

Osteopaths have become known for treating back pain and osteopathy offers an effective, affordable and natural solution for the problem. Back pain is at epidemic proportions in our society and 2/3 of the U.K population struggle with it. Although it is common, this does not mean that it is normal for it to occur.

Most back pain is mechanical and comes from the ligaments, discs, small joints and muscles in the back. It can be aggravated by lifestyle and posture and some times may have developed from your body adapting to an imbalance elsewhere in the body, like an old knee or foot injury. Occasionally the nerves may be involved  giving symptoms into the legs like pain, pins and needles and numbness.

Anxiety and stress can increase the amount of pain we feel. Pain causes stress, which in turn causes painful muscle spasms  increasing the amount of pain felt. This can become a vicious cycle that can be hard to break, leading to chronic back pain.  Easing tight and painful muscles and encouragement to use your back, can turn down the volume on the pain and help you to get moving again.

Research that has looked into back pain treatment shows that manual therapies like osteopathy are more beneficial then simply using painkillers or exercise.

My experience is that most back pain problems respond very well to treatment.
